- Triclosan- shown to decrease gingivitis and plaque. May disrupt your endocrine glands, can cause antibiotic resistance, hormonal issues, prostate, and breast issues.
- Sodium Lauryl Sufate (SLS) – is an irritate, which causes canker sores. SLS is also registered as an insecticide and may have toxic effects to marine life, including fish, insects, and crustaceans.
- Fluoride – is an endocrine disruptor that can affect your bones, brain, thyroid gland, pineal gland, and even your blood sugar levels.
- Artificial Sweetners- Aspartame is made up of aspartic acid and phenylalanine. The phenylalanine has been synthetically modified to carry a methyl group, which provides the majority of the sweetness. In humans, the methyl alcohol travels through your blood vessels into sensitive areas, such as your brain, where the methanol is converted to formaldehyde. Since there’s no catalase present, the formaldehyde is free to cause damage in your tissues. Symptoms from methanol poisoning include, headaches, ear buzzing, dizziness, nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, weakness, vertigo, chills, memory lapse, numbness, and shooting pains in the extremities, behavioral disturbances, and neuritis.
- Propylene Glycol- is a type of mineral oil, it is used in antifreeze, paints, enamels, and airplane de-icers. It is a known skin, eye, and lung irritant and may cause organ system toxicity.
- Diethanolamine (DEA)-It is a known hormone disupter and can react with other ingredients to form a potential carcinogen called NDEA (N-nitrosodiethanolamine), absorbed through the skin and has been linked to cancer of the stomach, esophagus, liver, and bladder.
- Microbeads-are tiny plastic pellets found in body washes, facial scrubs, toothpaste and more. Plastic microbeads absorb toxins from the water and are eaten by a variety of marine life and, by humans as well.
HOMEMADE SPEARMINT TOOTHPASTE
Add water to your desired consistency
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 10 drops spearmint essential oil (or your desired oil)
- water
