A Simple Homemade Lemon & Lavender Blend Laundry Detergent

Store-bought laundry detergents can get very expensive, especially when you need to keep it up on a daily basis. Making your own can save you tons of money! This recipe is very affordable and easy to make, you can double the recipe for more frequent users. (Full recipe is featured in my ebook “Secrets from a Cleaning Lady”)! You can also view the full version of this recipe in the video featured on the right sidebar of this page.

  • 1 cup Washing Soda
  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 Fels-Naptha Bar Soap
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential oil
  • 10 drops Lemon Essential oil

Directions:

Grate the Bar of Soap inside a large bowl (a cheese grater works great!) Add the borax and washing soda, stir the mixture with a spoon or whisk. (add 1 cup baking soda optional). Add the essential oils to the powder mixture. Put into a blender and blend until mixture forms into a fine powder. Pour powder into a gallon jar or container. Store and cover with a lid. You can keep a tablespoon inside the jar or container for easy measuring.

Coming from a Mom of 5 kids and a wife to a construction worker. I can vouch that this laundry soap not only saves money but works great! We have never committed into putting our Essential Oils in though. Gonna try it out …bet it smells great!

Look forward to your continued insight. I use this similar recipe myself. However, I am sensitive to scents so I do not add the lemon or lavender. I would not use the store bought now for anything due to toxicity & cost.

My nose is already imagining how beautiful this laundry detergent must smell. I’m an oil newby and usually just use whatever someone gives me as a hand me down. Definitely follow along, keeping a clean and tidy home is so important to me. <3

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been making a version similar to this but with scented beads from the laundry aisle instead of essential oils. I’ve been wanting to replace the scented (chemical) beads for awhile now, but wasn’t sure how much essential oil or which ones to use. I’ll try this next time I make a batch! Does it last ok, because I usually scale up my recipe and make a 5-gallon bucket at a time. Would the oils stay ok for longer term storage in the soap mixture? My guess is yes. Thanks!

I love a natural scent! I have not made my own laundry detergent, but I am currently sitting at my computer in a newly renovated basement and I am smelling peppermint and orange essential oils. We are soon listing the house for sale, and my daughter wanted to wash the floor that my husband just finished installing….so water, peppermint and orange it is! smells wonderful!
