Garbage disposals can leave a very foul smell in your kitchen, but never pour bleach down your disposal. The fumes can be very nasty, and it can take your breath away. Instead, cut a lemon and orange into small sized pieces or you can just run the rinds into the disposal. You can also add a couple drops each of lemon and orange essential oils. Wait at least 15-20 minutes before running water.

The rinds and the oils will help neutralize any odors, and they will leave your garbage disposal smelling fresh and clean with no lingering odors. So when you peel your next orange and lemon, use the rinds for your garbage disposal cleansing. You can also use apple and lime peels.

• Fresh lemon pieces or peels
• Fresh orange pieces or peels
• 2 drops each of lemon and orange essential oils (optional)

Note: You can add ice to help sharpen the blades. Just run cold water as you add the ice to the garbage disposal.
